Sweet Thoughts of Spring

Hello blog hoppers and readers! Happy Friday! I was lucky enough to have Monday off, but the week d r a g g e d by…did it for you?? I am VERY glad it’s Friday!

I’m glad also because I’m going to the Scrapbook Expo only 30 minutes away from my house tomorrow! Rarely do conventions come that close so I’m taking advantage by going to the all-day crop and shopping in the expo OF COURSE! I’m meeting a couple friends so it will be a very fun day! The crop has a luau theme – Hawaiian shirt time!!!! 🙂

Today’s card is a bit off-season – why not? Especially since it’s for a good cause to meet a challenge for the “Hope you can cling to” card drive on Splitcoast Stampers. Join in!

My card is a combo of Unity AND Ippity stamps. Don’t they match well?! The scalloped border is an Ippity stamp from the “Sweet Thoughts of Spring” set. Since the stamps are unmounted cling rubber, you can form the stamp to a shape. That’s what I’ve done here to follow the curved edge of the oval shape. Cool isn’t it? Don’t forget that your cling border stamps can do that!

The egg and letters are from Unity’s February 2009 KOTM and May 2010 KOTM respectively. I just LOVE that egg!!

A bit short on time to get this card to you, so I went with the Clean and Simple Approach.

I embossed white vellum with an embossing folder in the Big Shot Express. Super cool and a great effect! I then cut a window in the card front using a Spellbinders die. Just remember to tuck the die into the card so that you don’t cut through both front and back – how do I know that? Stamp and emboss your images then attach the vellum to the card front using nailheads – those are those small attachments that have a brad-like head with 4 prongs sticking out the back. They are clean and good for using with layers. I touched up the embossed flowers with a white pen.

The last Monday of the month, May is around the corner! Can you believe it? Is it starting to get warm where you live or still cold? It’s warming up here in Florida nicely and I’m enjoying it fully!

With Earth Day last week, I wanted to be more “green”, literally. 🙂 Last Monday I got Copic Certified and this is one item that I was playing with during class. The markers are SO fun, SO versatile and come in gorgeous colors. I couldn’t help but play with the branch image from the Devoted set. The leaves have their own “shading” as shown by the striped detail on the underside of the leaf itself. Cool! I don’t have to think about it much! I tossed in a little Spotlight Technique with the mini frame extending off the middle branch. Simple and GREEN!

Today’s card uses images from the Unity January 2009 KOM, Unity Hodge Podge of Happiness set and Ippity’s Sweet Thoughts of Spring.

I placed a Crafter’s Workshop plastic stencil on paper then spritzed with P K Glitz’ Ritzy Ditzy Glitz Turquoise spray. I love the subtle background!

I know, “blue owls”? Wellllllll, I’m into blue lately and thought that this would be super cute. Did you notice the Momma Owl’s blue eye shadow? 😀
